I'm an accredited Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and currently teach in the Theatre and Performance Studies department at the University of Warwick. I've led seminars and modules across all undergraduate levels - here's some of the most recent:

Seminar tutor - Theatre and Performance in Context

First-year undergraduate core module (2019 - present)

  • A year-long introduction to the key concepts, thinkers and practitioners that shape Theatre and Performance Studies.

  • I design and teach weekly seminars, as well as mark essays and grade presentations and deliver specific lectures.

  • Recent subjects include gender studies; twentieth-century practitioners; the role of the audience; race and performance; theatre and technology; theatre and class; ritual performance; climate change; postmodernism; performing the estate; and amateur dramatics.

Seminar tutor - Contemporary Performance Practices

First-year undergraduate core module (2020 - present)

  • A year-long introduction to the work of the most influential and exciting practitioners of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. We examine how they create their work, how their ideas relate to wider socio-political discourses, and how these approaches to performance can be applied to the students' own artistic work.

  • I design and deliver weekly seminars that provide a theoretical grounding to each practitioner, followed by practical workshops in which students experiment with their own creative responses.

  • Recent performance practices include play and participation (Gob Squad, Rimini Protokoll, Augusto Boal, Coney); performing place (Mierle Laderman Ukeles’ Maintenance Art, Station House Opera's Dominies, David Best's Temple, Anthony Gormley's One and Other) and performing online (Dries Verhoeven's Wanna Play?, Gordon Bell's MyLifeBits, Angela Washko's Video Game).

  • Currently, this module is delivered entirely online.

Guest tutor - Theatre and National Identities

Final-year undergraduate optional module (2020)

  • A term-long module exploring how British theatre reflects, responds to and influences concepts of nationhood

  • I designed and taught a seminar exploring British Asian experiences, as depicted in Tajinder Singh Hayer's North Country (2016) and Lung Theatre's Trojan Horse (2018)
